PR Consultant
A PR consultant helps founders decide what to say, who needs to hear it and how to approach media opportunities with a practical plan.
You may need an experienced sounding board before committing to ongoing activity, or support with a particular challenge. Consultancy gives you space to test a message, examine an opportunity and decide what is worth doing next. The starting point is your business question.

What do you get from a PR consultant?
The work can focus on a defined decision or develop into ongoing support. We establish the question, the context and what you need to take away, so the engagement has a useful purpose beyond a conversation.
- A strategy that connects the audience you need to reach with subjects you can discuss credibly.
- Messaging advice to help you explain a business change, a new idea or a difficult issue clearly.
- Media training and preparation when an interview or public conversation calls for considered answers.
- An assessment of a specific opportunity, including whether to respond, what to contribute and what to prepare.
Should you choose consultancy or an agency retainer?
Consultancy suits founders who want one senior person directly, with no junior account team between the brief and the advice. An ongoing PR programme serves a different need: sustained preparation, pitching and follow-through. We can discuss which arrangement fits your capacity and objectives.

Define the decision
Tell us what is happening, who is involved and what you need to resolve. We will agree the scope and fee before work begins, including whether you need a focused session or continuing support.

Work through the options
We examine your messages, evidence and audience together. You can bring a draft, a journalist’s enquiry or a broader business challenge. The aim is to leave with priorities and actions you can understand and use.

Agree what happens next
Some founders can put the advice into practice themselves; others need help carrying it through. We agree responsibilities and any further work explicitly, with a review of what has changed before extending the brief.

Who will advise you?
Your consultant is Adia PR founder Alison Shadrack. Enterprise Nation and Experian recognised her among their Top 5 PR Advisers. She chaired the IoD’s Essex branch during 2020-2022 and contributed to SXSW London in 2026.

When is a consultant the right choice?
Consider consultancy when you need a clear strategy, a second opinion on messaging or help preparing for a particular moment. It also suits founders who can deliver activity internally but want experienced direction before they begin.
How much does a PR consultant cost?
Ongoing retainers are available from £1,000 a month, with day rates on request. We agree the work and fee around your brief. A focused consultancy engagement can be discussed separately from a continuing media programme.
Can I book advice without a monthly retainer?
Yes. We can discuss a defined consultancy brief and quote a day rate on request. Explain the decision or challenge first so we can establish how much preparation and working time it needs.
Will you write and pitch stories as part of consultancy?
That depends on the scope we agree. Advice alone does not automatically include delivery. If you need writing, outreach or ongoing media relations, we can set out that work and its responsibilities in the proposal.
